  • Cannabinoids
The cannabis plant contains about 540 chemical substances and more than 100 cannabinoids. THC and CBD (cannabidiol) are the most well-known cannabinoids but other cannabinoids such as CBG and CBN are gaining popularity. Cannabinoids are created in the resin glands of the cannabis plant but they aren’t just found in plants, our bodies also naturally produce cannabinoids. In fact, we have an endocannabinoid system (ECS) which is believed to play a key role in the regulation of sleep, appetite, mood and other biological functions. Although our bodies produce cannabinoids, they don’t act the same as plant cannabinoids. For example, we don’t get “high” from our ECS functions. However, THC and CBD from plants interact with our system and create different effects (ie: THC creates a psychoactive “high”).
  • CBD
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a natural compound found in both marijuana and hemp plants. It is considered the cousin to the THC but does not contain the same psychoactive components. Although the discovery of the CBD molecule occurred relatively recently in the 1940’s, the cannabis plant has been used medicinally for thousands of years. CBD is not considered a supplement and has a complicated history due to stigma and complex legal issues. It has only been since 2018 when the Farm Bill legalized the cultivation of hemp and outlined regulations for hemp products to contain no more than 0.3% THC. Clinical research is still in early stages but CBD is thought to have a variety of health and wellness benefits including; improving mood, reducing stress, reducing inflammation, helping with sleep and more. Full Spectrum- Refers to whole plant extract that contains flowers, CBD, varying other cannabinoids and 0.3% or less THC. Due to the whole plant synergistic nature, this form can create an entourage effect that may have the most benefit or value. Broad Spectrum- Contains other types of cannabinoids but does not contain any THC. This form of CBD can often be more expensive due to process of extracting the THC. Isolate- Isolates, as the name suggests, isolate the CBD compound so that no other cannabinoids or terpenes are present, including THC. Isolates are beneficial for people who require drug testing or do not feel comfortable with trace amounts of THC. CBD Dosage Chart
